Call for Presentations

 

The conference is open to interested participants e.g. from government agencies, universities and research institutes from Europe, North America and elsewhere.

We invite you to submit a paper or poster to the ‘Our Shared Landscape’ conference and welcome contributions addressing the following issues and applications:

Issues

Land use practice, ecological implications and aesthetics. E.g. economically efficient agricultural and timber production systems and their impact on ecology and aesthetics.
   
Linking assessments of visual qualities and production, socio-economic, ecological, cultural and amenity functions of the landscape.
   
Conflicts in integrating aesthetics, ecology and economics.
   
Representation of ecological and socio-economical landscape functions, as a basis to the evaluation of different landscape management scenarios.
   
Ecological aesthetics.
   
Aesthetic preferences for sustainable landscapes.
   
The role of modeling and visual simulation in integrating ecological, socio-economic and aesthetic aspects.
   
Ownership and the view of the land-user Applications.
   
Landscape Planning.
   
Land Management.
   
Cultural Landscapes.
   
Sustainable Agriculture.
   
Protected Area Management (e.g. Biosphere Reserves).
   
Water Resources Management (as impacted by land uses and land cover).


Submission guidelines:

Paper and Poster (download sample abstract).

The deadline for abstracts is November 15, 2004. Only electronic submissions in English language are considered (Microsoft Word format).

All participants delivering a poster or paper should submit the following by November 15, 2004 to osl@nsl.ethz.ch:

1.  
A clear and well-written abstract of 500 words maximum, including the key references.
     
2.  
Information on author’s affiliation (name, address, phone number, e-mail address, website (if available).
     
3.   A short biography of 100 words maximum per author.


Oral Presentations

The selection of oral presentations will be made by the organizers and a board of reviewers.


Poster Awards

Based on an anonymous evaluation by all participants poster awards will be given to the best three posters.


Proceedings

We expect to publish the proceedings with an international publisher.
